The American Pakistan Foundation welcomes Suhail A. Shaikh, a partner and senior investment professional at Solar Capital, to its board of directors. Since 2011, Mr. Shaikh has been responsible for originating, structuring, and managing principal investments at Solar Capital, a private credit fund manager with over $4 billion of investable capital. Prior to Solar Capital, Mr. Shaikh was a managing director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML), where he was responsible for coverage of private equity clients. He led advisory assignments, financings, and equity offerings for leveraged buyouts and sponsor-owned portfolio companies.
With over twenty years in investment banking and principal investing, Mr. Shaikh has significant experience in raising capital and investing in companies in a wide variety of industries in the US, Europe, and Asia. Prior to BAML, Mr. Shaikh was in CIBC World Markets’ Financial Sponsor Group in New York, where he managed sponsor client relationships and executed leveraged finance transactions. He also spent several years with JP Morgan & Co. in New York and London. He began his career as an investment analyst at Bankers Trust Co., where he co-managed a $200-million high grade corporate bond portfolio. Mr. Shaikh holds an A.B. in Computer Science and Economics from Middlebury College and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
