In honor of Women's History Month, please join us for a panel discussion of how feminism is perceived and understood in the South Asian community. We will discuss the roots of feminism in the United States and South Asia and explore how it relates to the South Asian diaspora. We will also engage a group of dynamic leaders on what feminism means to them.

Panelists

Ambassador Shirin Tahir-Kheli is an American political scientist who served in the Department of State and White House National Security Council. In 2006, she was appointed as the first Ambassador for women's empowerment by the United States. She serves on the APF President's Circle.

Sumbul Ali-Karamali is a lawyer and scholar of Islamic Law and the author of several books, including The Muslim Next Door: the Qur’an, the Media, and that Veil Thing.

Dr. Uzma Iqbal is a highly skilled and effective physician leader, teacher, and mentor. She serves on the APF Board of Directors.

Maha Kamal is an attorney practicing family law in Denver, Colorado. She is a member of the APF Leadership Council, loves international travel, writing, stand-up comedy, and studio art.

Misaal Irfan is a second-year undergraduate at the George Washington University in the Elliott School and Milken Institute studying International Affairs and Public Health. She is an APF Research Fellow and served on the APF Get Out The Vote Initiative.

Shamila N. Chaudhary is president of the American Pakistan Foundation.
